BjjDepot.ca was conceived and created by Vancouver, BC based BJJ enthusiast Chris Stepchuk and his childhood friend Joel Murdoch. Originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Chris has been training Judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu since 1995, and has loved every minute of it (almost-minus the injuries, being tapped out a lot, and being crushed by large dudes). Chris currently holds the rank of brown belt under Professor Ritchie Yip of Infighting Vancouver.
Our goal is to provide Canadians with top quality BJJ kimonos and jiu-jitsu products, so that they don’t have to deal with the hassles of purchasing from online retailers out of the US. As consumers ourselves, we know how frustrating it can be dealing with a fluctuating currency exchange, surprise import duties, mystery brokerage fees, and potential shipping delays due to customs.
We also realize that Canadians don’t want to pay more than their American counterparts simply because we live in Canada! We also know that sometimes the kimono just doesn’t fit quite right when it comes out of the package, or doesn’t look quite the same as it did on the website. Returning products to the US from Canada can be a daunting task, and that’s why we have endeavored to find a simpler solution!
Our mission is to scour the world in search of the latest and greatest BJJ gear and cool jiu-jitsu products, and to purchase directly from the source to provide you with the best pricing and selection. If it’s not something we would use ourselves, we simply will not sell it. We wanted to build a virtual store focusing specifically on BJJ gear, not T-shirts with skulls, dragons, and glitter- you won’t find any of that here (no offence to anyone who likes that stuff, it’s just not our bag)!
